Author event with Lisa K. Presley
Parnassus Books
Wed, Aug 30 6:30 pm

Parnassus Books welcomes Lisa Kay Presley as she reads from and signs The Wait. There’s one thing everybody knew about Bonnie McCaverty; she never gave up. Not on a sickly calf or a stubborn pony, not on getting her way, not on Calvin Wade. She tried more than a few times to put him out of her mind, but it never lasted. Her love for him would always come back and even stronger than before. In 1918, the Influenza epidemic claims the life of both of Calvin’s parents. Afterwards, he is taken in by their neighbors Lizzie and Jessie McCaverty and their three girls: Nettie, Emma and precocious little Bonnie.  Bonnie always thought she would marry Calvin, but superstitions ran deep in those days, and Calvin’s mind was set on the fact that everyone he loves dies after a series of deaths plague his life. He feels the only way to keep Bonnie alive was to stay away from her. The Wait is a novel of hope and patience in the face of drought and depression, superstitions of the time, and the burdens of a world war—a poignant story that reminds us that the important things in life are worth the wait. She has been published in The Tennessean and Banner newspapers, has published a children’s book titled The Orphans, and had great success with a short story titled The Judgment, which will soon be a full-length novel.  Ms. Presley has called Nashville her home since 1982. Born from her love of the city, and her love of history, especially the World War II era, The Wait tells a rich story, which weaves its way through three decades of Tennessee history.
