Ensworth running back Nicky Clifton came up big in the Tigers’ 35-14 win at Knoxville-Webb on Friday night.
The senior ran 18 times for 201 yards and three scores, and scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to break open a close game.
Ensworth’s David Reynolds turned in an outstanding defensive effort, registering six stops with one sack and 2 1/2 tackles for loss and a pass break-up.
The Tigers’ Keyshawn Lawrence added 86 rushing yards and 12 receiving yards, and scored a touchdown.
The Tigers improved to 2-1 after losing in overtime to Christ Presbyterian Academy last week. Clifton had 199 yards in that contest.
Ensworth racked up 409 yards of offense, to just 273 for Webb.
With Ensworth leading 21-14 after a scoreless third quarter, Clifton scored on a 20-yard run with 7:42 left, and added a 6-yard score at 2:02.
Ensworth scored the game’s first points on a blocked punt. The Tigers’ Jude Maloy scooped it up and dashed 15 yards just 2:39 into the game.
Webb’s Roderick Lewis scored on a 4-yard run, but Clifton answered just 55 seconds into the second quarter with a 7-yard score of his own.
Lewis answered with a scoring run from midfield, but Lawrence scored his on a 5-yard run with 1:25 left before half.
Elijah Brooks and Josh Howard tied Reynolds with six total tackles. Defensive end Tanner Antonutti added two tackles and a sack.
Ensworth hosts Baylor next week.
