Ensworth’s Jaylon King rushed for 77 yards, had 4 1/2 tackles and a sack, and broke up two passes, as the Tigers ended Montgomery Bell Academy’s undefeated season with a 10-7 road win on Friday.
In a game during which offense was scarce, Ensworth won despite having just nine first downs and 174 yards, compared to MBA’s 14 and 207.
The Tigers’ Josh Howard added seven solo tackles, one assists, and a stop for loss.
Dante Wynn had five solo tackles, an assist, a half-stop for loss and an interception for Ensworth (6-2).
The Tigers’ Lucas Rodriguez broke a second-half time with a field goal to give Ensworth a three-point lead with 3:08 left in the third quarter. That was the game’s final score.
Ensworth took a 7-0 lead with 10:51 remaining in the first half when Nicky Clifton scored on a 1-yard run.
MBA’s Ty Allen responded with a 2-yard scoring run as the Big Red tied the game late in the first half.
The score stayed tied at 7 at the break. Ensworth had just four first downs in the first half.
Ensworth has a week off before hosting Pope John Paul II on Oct. 20.
