Ensworth lost its second game of the season in a 28-20 defeat at McCallie in Chattanooga on Friday evening.

Tiger running backs Nicky Clifton (17 carries, 84 yards, one touchdown) and Keshawn Lawrence (five carries, 93 yards, one touchdown) weren’t enough to one-up the Blue Tornadoes’ Xavier Brooks, who had three touchdowns.

Leading 21-20 at half, Blue Tornadoes got a 33-yard run from Brooks with 5:03 to play to win the game with 5:03 to play. Those were the second half’s only points.

Ensworth’s Clifton put the Tigers up on a 7-yard touchdown run, then, Lawrence galloped 74 yards to put the Tigers back up 14-7 after McCallie answered with a Brooks scoring run from 76 yards.

Brooks dashed 35 yards for another score, then Ensworth’s Wesley Walker ran 59 yards with 1:32 left before half.

But Lucas Rodriguez’s point-after was blocked, and McCallie’s Rico Dozier caught a 37-yard toss from DeAngelo Hardison with 24 seconds left before half as the Blue Tornadoes took a one-point lead at the break.

Junior Elijah Brooks led Ensworth with 7.5 tackles.

Ensworth hosts Trezevant next week.
