WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TN — An evening thunderstorm that passed through Brentwood and Franklin early Wednesday evening packed a powerful punch that left its mark for several blocks in either direction of I-65 on Hwy 96 (Murfreesboro Rd). Williamson Source tracked the storm on RADAR just after 7pm and rotation was indicated at that time. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued, and the storm packed strong, straight-line winds, heavy rain, and lots of lightning. Police in Brentwood have also been busy responding to damage reports.
Reports of significant storm damage began coming in just before 7:30pm. Street lights had blown down on Hwy 96 at Center Point Drive (Taco Bell, Bank of America, Regions Bank, and Zaxby’s are all on the corner there). Power went out on the block between Royal Oaks Blvd and I-65 on both sides of the street. And the roof blew off the office at the Quality Inn, just across from Shoney’s. Roof damage has also been reported at Holiday Wine & Spirits around the corner on Royal Oaks Blvd, just North of Hwy 96.
At approximately 8:15pm, the Franklin Police Department closed the on-ramp to I-65 Northbound at Hwy 96 due to power lines down on the overpass there. Clean-up is expected to cause disruption at the interchange for the remainder of the evening.
The telephone number to report power outages to MTEMC is (877) 777-9111.
