Tracy Halloran has been a part of the local Meals on Wheels effort for 14 years, first as a volunteer driver and later as the Franklin coordinator for Monday, Wednesday, Friday MOW. In her volunteer position she coordinates the efforts of 10 churches, feeding 120-130 people each week, the majority of whom are elderly and disabled homebound on fixed income. She works with a team of 250 volunteers.
The Monday, Wednesday and Friday Meals on Wheels program, whose oldest client just turned 102 this past January, receives donations from Publix, Costco and other grocery stores and restaurants who are willing to give away their leftovers. Tracy spends Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays picking up these donations.
When asked what makes this program work, Tracy was quick to mention that it wouldn’t work without the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, the churches that support the program and the businesses who step up to provide food and supplies.
In honor of Tracy’s hard work and commitment to Meals on Wheels and to feeding the hungry she has been named the Darrell Waltrip Automotive Hometown Hero for the month of February.
