Drug Take-Back Event Offers Safe Way to Dispose of Rx

On Sept 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Williamson County will have its third opportunity in three years to dispose of their unwanted or expired prescription medication through the Drug Take-Back Event with the Williamson County Anti-Drug Coalition (WCADC) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Drop your pills for disposal at Brentwood Police Department, Fairview Police Department or Franklin Police Department. (They cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

At past drug take-back events, Williamson County residents turned in over 400 lbs. of prescription drugs at local Drug Take-Back events with the WCADC and local law enforcement.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  Medicines that sit in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. and Williamson County are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

The Drug Take-Back is presented by the Williamson County Anti-Drug Coalition (WCADC), Brentwood Police Department, Fairview Police Department, Franklin Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
