The Brentwood Police Department announced that it is joining the free Neighbors app by Ring to help reduce crime in our community. The app allows Brentwood Police to inform the community of real-time crime and safety events and allows the user to share images and video directly with police. You do not need Ring devices to participate, but Ring estimates there are about 3,000 Ring doorbell users in Brentwood. Anyone with a camera system at their front door can upload content to the Neighbors App.
The Neighbors network already has millions of users and has been instrumental in catching package thieves, stopping burglaries, and even assisting in the capture of Curtis Watson over the weekend. Watson, who escaped from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary last week, was spotted on a Ring doorbell surveillance system. The homeowners then notified law enforcement and Watson was captured.
Brentwood Chief of Police Jeff Hughes said, “Please help us spread the word about the new partnership with the Neighbors App. We are confident this will be another helpful tool to allow our officers to work closely with neighborhoods to help make your home safer. We know images and videos captured at your homes will be helpful to our staff in solving crime.”
How It Works
- Download the Neighbors app on iOS and Android here: download.ring.com/brentwood or by texting brentwoodtn to 555888 from your smartphone.
- Opt-in to join your neighborhood.
- Customize the geographic area you want to receive notifications for (users must verify where they are located and cannot participate in other neighborhoods).
- Receive real-time alerts from your neighbors, local law enforcement and the Ring team that inform of crime and safety alerts as they happen.
- View local crime and safety posts via a live feed or interactive map.
- Share text updates, photos and videos taken on any device, including Ring’s home security devices.
- Work with your community to make neighborhoods safer.
