Donna’s Deals: 7 Places to Shop If Decorating on Budget

If you’ve got an inner interior designer in you, you probably spend a lot of time perusing Pinterest, Houzz, and every home design blogger you can find. But sometimes the price tag on those items is out of budget for the DIY interior designer. Don’t give up on your new project yet, we put together a list of places where you can buy the latest trends without breaking the bank.

1. Goodwill or Thriftsmart

For all of you DIYers out there, you can find some great items at these stores. With a coat of paint or new fabric on a chair, you have a brand new item for much less than buying it in a furniture store.

2. Craft Stores – JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby

These stores will offer coupons for 40-50% off on a regular basis. Right now is a good time to shop for planters and spring items to decorate your home.

3.Dollar Tree

I’m a big fan of the Dollar Tree, especially for holidays. You can buy helium balloons for just $1, purchase holiday napkins and if you are hosting a large group, glassware is just a $1 and if someone breaks a glass, you don’t worry.

4. TJ Maxx Home Goods

When decorating a child’s room, you often update the room more frequently than other rooms in the house. TJ Maxx Home Goods is a great place to shop for bedding, accessories, and rugs.  Then in a few years when your child wants an update, you don’t feel guilty on what you spent decorating.

5.Garage Sales, Facebook Groups and Craiglist

If you have time to shop at garage sales on Saturday mornings, it’s another way to find those treasures.  Other ways to find items is Facebook groups like Brentwood, Buy, Sell, Trade. Search Facebook for our city, as many other cities have Buy, Sell, Trade groups as well. A couple of new ways to find items is a group called Sara Sells which offers overstock items at a discounted price and Curating Craiglist which does all of the hard work for you by collecting a list of curated items from Craiglist.

6.Southeastern Salvage Store

A designer recently told me this is her go-to place for rugs. Located in Nashville you can find a little bit of everything from building supplies to home accessories which include those coveted cowhide rugs everyone wants right now. Learn more about them on Facebook.

7. Your Backyard

As you trim your boxwood, bring some inside as greenery. Or cut some of those flowers that are blooming in your yard for a centerpiece.
