Dolly Parton who just turned 70 in January shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Today, in a press conference when asked if planned to slow down or retire, Parton replied.
“I have no plans to retire. I hope to drop dead on stage and have you say she died with a smile on her face and now she’s gone.”
2016 will be a big year for Parton as she just announced a new North America tour. With 60 cities on as well as a stop in Canada, this will be the biggest tour for Parton in 25 years.
“We’re so excited to get out there and see the fans again. I’m really looking forward to singing songs the fans have not heard in a while, as well as the hits, while debuting a few new ones off Pure & Simple,” Parton said.
Parton is also releasing a new album called Pure & Simple. Dolly’s Biggest Hits 2-CD set will include all new material as well as a compilation of Parton’s biggest hits. A track listing for Pure & Simple will be announced soon.
In addition the the tour and album release. The Country Music Hall of Famer is on one of the biggest hot streaks of her career after her hugely successful TV movie, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” attracted a network record of 15.8+ million viewers and was the most watched movie on network TV in more than 3 years. “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” will be released on DVD May 3. Parton also announced the next TV movie based off the song, “Jolene.” The movie is in the works right now but no details were given about the cast. After “Jolene” there will also be a movie released about Parton’s song “The Seeker.”
Parton will celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary in May. As she spoke during the press conference she relayed plans for a renewing of her vows celebration with a custom wedding dress that she said would be anything other than “Pure and Simple.” Parton was married in Ringgold, Georgia in a small ceremony but never was able to have the big wedding that she has had always dreamed of.
