For many of us, our pets are like family and when it comes to vacation time, we hate to leave them either at a kennel or at home with a housesitter. While some pets might not respond well to travel, if you have a pet who loves to go on trips with you, here are 3 dog friendly beach vacations.

1Sanibel Island, Florida

Sanibel Island has been called one of the best beaches in Florida with beautiful seashells and breathtaking views. Sanibel Island includes several dog-friendly house rentals and hotels including the Tropical Winds Motel & Cottages. Several spots along the island including Bowman’s Beach, Lighthouse Park Beach, and Tarpon Bay Road Beach, as well as the JN (Ding) Darling National Wildlife Refuge let you lounge and hike with your dog for a relaxing vacation. Some great dog-friendly eateries include Over Easy Café, whose cinnamon buns make a great breakfast place, the Island Cow, and the Mucky Duck’s outdoor picnic tables.

2Golden Isles, Georgia

There’s a small line of islands off of Georgia’s Atlantic coast known as the Golden Isles including Jekyll, St. Simons, and other smaller islands. The best part of these beaches is the untouched naturalness of the beaches, with about 65 percent of Jekyll Island undeveloped, giving access to most of its beaches at any time. If you’re looking for great views and seafood eating, Latitude 31’s “Rah Bar” waterfront patio welcomes friendly dogs. Other great spots include St. Simons Island’s East Beach and Massengale Park for running and swimming with your dogs along the shore. On the north end of St. Simons Island, you can let your pup loose and socialize with some new furry friends at Frederica Park.

3Outer Banks, North Carolina

Off of the North Carolina coast, along the 130-mile stretch of the barrier islands is the Outer Banks, a group of quaint beach towns each with their own character and the majority of them are dog-friendly year long. Take your dog to Bonzer Shack in Kill Devil Hills, one of the best places for food, music, and games of corn hole. You and your dog can even enjoy some special ice cream together at Kitty Hawk. Some great places for exercise and seeing great views include Cape Hatteras National Seashore and the 7-mile long, multi-use Duck Trail.

These are only a few of the possible dog-friendly vacation spots, but definitely some of the best. Take some time off with your fur baby and enjoy some great stays, food, music, fun, and relaxation with your pet.
