Depth And Experience Look To Make Brentwood Academy Take Flight

Brentwood Academy seeks it’s first State Championship since 2006 this year. The historically strong program, under fourth year head coach Cody White, is coming off of a quarterfinal loss to Memphis University School in the 2014 playoff race. But, this year’s team learned a lot last year, as injuries forced moves to be made. Positions that lacked depth and experience last year don’t have that problem this year.

Brentwood Academy Returns 15 Starters

Sometimes injuries aren’t a bad thing , especially when you ended 8-2 last year. This seems to be the case for the Eagles as they return 15 starters. And according to prepweekly.com ‘s Clay Maddox there’s alot of beef to back up the depth:

“The Eagles foundation on offense is it’s 8 returning starters and big, experienced offensive line including highly touted big time college recruits, Bryce Matthews (6’6”, 275, Sr) and University of Tennessee commitment Ryan Johnson (6’5”, 270, Sr). The mammoth offensive tackles will be holding the edges for athletic QB Jeremiah Oatsvall (6’1”, 188, Jr). The center of the line will be quick with Ryan Franklin (6’1”, 235, Sr), Brian Garvey (6’3”, 275, Sr), and Elijah Treat (6’4”, 275, Jr).”

Maddox continues:

“Defensively, the Eagles are strong and fast, attacking the interior and locking up outside receivers.  Coach White’s squad is solidified with 7 returning starters. Brentwood Academy will be relying defensively on the huge, dominant force of highly rated talent.”
