Davis House Hosts Child Abuse Prevention Training

Davis House Child Advocacy Center

The Davis House Child Advocacy Center invites the community to join them for Stewards of Children – Child Abuse Prevention Training on Tuesday, July 7th from 6p-8:30p.

Statistics tell us child abuse is, for the most part, a hidden crime with only 12% of the actual number of incidents being reported to authorities.  Unthinkable, uncomfortable to talk about, embarrassing, cloaked in misdirected guilt, shame and manipulation.  Child abuse knows no social and/or economic barriers and with close to 65,000 children in the Davis House four-county service area, we must all wake up to the reality that child abuse moves through virtually all corners of our community.   Left unchecked, child abuse leads to more abuse, delinquent behaviors, alcohol and drug use, suicide, emotional disorders and early pregnancy.

Davis House Hosts Child Abuse Prevention TrainingThe Davis House wants to educate the community on how to better protect your children, so join them for the free event on July 7th. The event takes place at 101 Forrest Crossing Blvd, Suite 106 in Franklin.

Space is limited. Please RSVP by e-mail: [email protected] or call 615-790-5900 x104.

Stewards of Children Training is provided at no cost due to the generosity of Regions Bank and Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.

About The Davis House Child Advocacy Center:

Mission

The mission of the Child Advocacy Center is to combat child abuse by coordinating services to children and their families in crisis and providing community education focused on prevention and early intervention.

Geographic Area Served by DHCAC

Davis House encompasses a four-county service area which comprises the 21st Judicial District. While its primary office is in Franklin serving Williamson County, there is also a satellite office in Hohenwald that provides most of the services for Hickman, Lewis and Perry counties.

Need for Services

According to the most recent census figures, there are 63,875 children under the age of 18 in our four county service area. National statistics tell us that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by the time they turn age 18. Statistics also tell us that only 12% of cases of abuse are actually reported to authorities. Our Center serves this target population of children under the age of 18 who are victims of abuse. These children are from our community; go to our schools; frequent our centers of worship; live in our neighborhoods and often in our own homes. They come from affluent families and from poor families alike, from educated and uneducated parents, and live in all areas of the community.
