Once a pit stop for locals, the Davis General Store in the Boston community reopens today, Saturday, November 10, under the ownership of local residents Norm and Teresa Gielda.
As the farmers and homeowners in the area can tell you, the iconic general store has been an anchoring presence in the community since it opened in 1928 and the Davis family took it over in 1960. The baton was passed to the Gieldas in early 2018; they will continue many of the store’s traditional offerings, while adding their own unique flavors.
“It was important for us to keep the Davis name to honor the history of the store, which has been operating since at least 1928, and the Davis family who owned and operated it since 1960 until it closed last year,” said Teresa Gielda.
She continued, “From what we understand, we are only the 4th owners of the 90-year old store. We did rebrand it as The Davis General to put our own mark on it and will add our own unique offerings, but will also keep many of the original features, and have worked carefully and painstakingly to retain the original character of the old general store. Lots of cleaning, repairing, and repurposing has been done to the store under our ownership, rather than replacing.”
The Gieldas will begin their new venture by opening the doors on Saturday, November 10. Beginning at noon, The Davis General Store will offer family fun with food and live music as the Grand (re)Opening is celebrated until 4 p.m.
“We’ll have a ribbon cutting, hot dog lunches, live music, and fun activities for the kids that day,” Teresa shares. “Our regular food services will begin the following week, but the retail end of the general store will be available during the grand opening event. We want everyone to come through to see what we offer.”
Norm adds, “We hope to have all the old Davis Store regulars and regular visitors come by and say hello. We have a lot more names to learn, we know.”
“We’re really looking forward to opening tomorrow and meeting all the members of the community who have been stopping by and expressing their excitement to hear about the store operating again!” said Teresa.
The Davis General will offer deli items, groceries, feed, and fuel. The store is located at 5600 Leipers Creek Road, Franklin. Hours are Monday through Saturday 7 a to 6 p and Sunday 11 a to 3 p. Follow them on Facebook for the latest updates.
