Date Set for Bridge Implosion Over I-65

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will implode the bridge at State Route 248 (Peytonsville Road / Goose Creek Bypass) over I-65 in Williamson County on Saturday, September 20th.This project is part of an ongoing process to repair two bridges that were damaged after a fuel tanker crashed into an overpass bridge support column last month. The older of the two bridges was demolished just a few days after the wreck.

Traffic will be stopped in both directions between approximately 6:15 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. to allow for the implosion. Law enforcement will be in place to restrict access to the site. During the closure, all traffic will be detoured while the bridge is imploded and debris is removed. This operation will likely create lengthy delays for traffic on I-65. Interstate ramps at SR 248 will be accessible; however, motorists are advised to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes if possible.

Also, from Friday September 19 at 8pm through Monday September 22 at 5am, I-65 will be closed in both directions at SR 248 (Peytonsville Road/Goose Creek Bypass), at milemarker 61, in order to take down and remove the existing bridge.
