Darrell Waltrip’s February Hometown Hero: Ms. Peggy Smith

Peggy Smith or “Ms. Peggy,” as she is affectionately called by members of the Boys and Girls Club, is also known as the PBJ lady. Ms. Peggy has been known to not only drop everything to make a child in need a hot meal, she spends up to 5 days a week at the Club preparing and serving snacks.

She has made it her mission to educate the general public about the challenges faced by the many children that may go hungry during the summer, on the weekends, or simply after the school day has ended. Smith was one of six Downtown Merchants to create Wine Down Main Street which has consistently been voted “best event” since it’s creation seven years ago.

“Peggy Smith is a perfect example of one who lends her time,IMG_0910 talent and treasure to our Boys & Girls Clubs”, said Boys & Girls Clubs Williamson County Area Director Denise Carothers.  “Not very many days go by that you do not find her inside the Club serving meals to the kids or out in the community promoting our special events.”

Because of the difference Ms. Peggy has made for the local children of the Boys and Girls Club in Franklin, she is being honored as a Darrell Waltrip Automotive Group Hometown Hero.

“Ms. Peggy is not only a local hometown hero, she is a true hero for our kids,” said Boys & Girls Clubs Chief Development and External Affairs Officer John Winnett.  “Whether she is making kids healthy lunches or giving them insightful advice, Ms. Peggy is a true example of a community leader giving back and making a difference.”

As a part of her award, a $500 donation will be made to the Franklin and Fairview Boys & Girls Clubs in her honor.

The Boys & Girls Clubs have several fundraisers each year and are always looking for volunteers to help with their mission.  The next fundraiser for the Franklin and Fairview Boys & Girls Clubs is the 26th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner coming up Thursday April 23rd.  For more info visit www.bgcmt.org.
