Benji Cowart gives Dad’s side to Magic’s ” Rude”

Billboard just released its Hot 100 Song Chart with the Reggae Band  Magic’s ” Rude” , taking the #1 spot.  But have you seen this Dad’s  rendition of Magic’s  “Rude” yet?  Franklin resident and songwriter, Benji Cowart, says “I loved their original version but the “I’m gonna marry her anywhere”, just kinda made the dad in me bow up, (not so much against the band Magic! because  their song is about a hypothetical situation) against the hypothetical guy that would look me in the eye as the dad and say “I’m gonna marry her anywhere”..so I kinda tried to capture all the knee jerk reactions that I or any dad would have in that moment..it mostly started as a song I was messing around with but the more of the dad version I wrote, the more I realized there might be something to it.”

Magic has even taken a listen to Cowart’s song, giving their approval.  Cowart’s reaction,” I  loved it and it showed how classy those guys are..I have become a huge fan and bought their album…it’s actually really amazing.”

In a very short time, Cowart’s youtube video has received over 5 Million views, he has also been featured in the National Media many times over the past week.  We asked Cowart how he felt about being in the spotlight? “We are enjoying the “two minutes” of fame while we can before our national attention deficit disorder takes on to the next “shiny object”..if nothing else, the parody has introduced a worthwhile conversation for daddy’s & daughters into some the social media feeds & comment boards,” says Cowart.

Lucky for Cowart his daughter is only 11 years old, so no proposals yet!  We want to know what you think about Cowart’s rendition of “Rude”.
