The seasonal influx of kittens that began in May at Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) continues to fill the shelter. To relieve crowding, the Franklin shelter is offering $10 adoptions for two kittens. (Studies have shown that kittens who grow up with a playmate are better socialized and behaved.) Adopt a sweet kitten and get a built-in playmate included in the adoption!
Debbie Sims, public outreach coordinator for WCAC, said the shelter continues to experience a high intake of kittens, including tiny newborns requiring round-the-clock bottle feedings. “Our foster network is very busy right now, as is our shelter. We currently have 80 kittens in foster homes, as well as 46 available for immediate adoption at the shelter. We hope the community will respond in a big way by giving these pets a permanent home.”
All adoptions require an approved application and include vaccinations, spay or neuter (or $50 returnable deposit), microchip and a pet goodie bag. There are also 25 adult cats of all types, ages and breeds available for adoption at no cost. Unaltered pets may only be adopted by Williamson County residents.
Rabies/Microchip Clinic Saturday
The animal center will have its monthly public rabies and microchip clinic on Saturday, September 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the shelter, 106 Claude Yates Dr. The public is invited to bring their cats or dogs for $10 rabies shots and $15 microchips. The rabies fee includes a one-year shot and a collar tag. The optional microchip protects your pet from loss for a lifetime. Chips are registered to a database so pets can be reunited with owners when found. The clinic accepts cash and checks only; no credit or debit cards.
Williamson County Animal Center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Intakes are accepted Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The shelter is located at 106 Claude Yates Dr., next to Franklin High School, and the phone number is (615) 790-5590.
