Greenbrier (5-3, 2-2) at Christ Presbyterian Academy (2-5, 2-1), 7 p.m. Thursday*

The Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions will look to keep pace in the race for the playoffs in a special Thursday night game.

The Lions, who sit in a tie for second in Region 5-3A at 2-1 with Goodpasture, welcome the Greenbrier Bobcats.

Greenbrier sits at 2-2 in the region. It’s tied for the coveted fourth spot in the league with East Nashville, which owns the tiebreaker thanks to a 35-0 beatdown against the Bobcats earlier in the season.

After the Lions dropped a heartbreaker 7-6 to region-leading Stratford two weeks ago, they rebounded last Friday with a big 28-0 drumming at East Nashville.

If CPA wants to stay safe at second in the standings, it will have to bring its offense against a Greenbrier defense that has been shaky at times this season, giving up 21 points per game. The Lions, meanwhile, have looked questionable on the offensive side of the ball, being shut out three times and only averaging 11 points per contest.

Running back James Deaton (446 rushing yards, four TDs) will hope to replicate his performance from last week. The senior rushed 17 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions’ win.

Defensively, CPA will have to contend with a Greenbrier offense built to run the ball. Last week against Whites Creek, the Bobcats as a team had 50 carries for 350 yards and four touchdowns.

The game, which may prove important in the league standings, could be decided by which offense is able to run the ball more effectively.
