Opposites should not attract in this game.

The second ranked CPA Lions host for homecoming this Friday at 7 p.m. the Whites Creek Cobras.

This game should be a study of opposites. There stands the undefeated (7-0) Lions, with homecoming and home field advantage, and as a mirror image the winless (0-7) Cobras.

The Lions, led  by coach Ingle Martin and his star quarterback Zack Weatherly and quarterback/running back Jay Hockaday, have racked up on average 36 points per game this year, and allowed only 11. The Cobras, on the other hand, average 9 points per game and give up 38.

CPA averages 155 passing yards per game and on the ground, where it does most of its damage, its averages 222 yards per game. They have been so dominant, in fact, that excluding the first game of the season (a 17-14 win over Brentwood) the Lions have not won a game by less than 17 points, putting another jewel in its prospective district crown last week with a 48-7 destruction of Spring Hill.

Weatherly has passed for 72 completiosn on 110 attempts for 941 yards, 12 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. He is dangerous, and shouldl be deadly to the Cobras anemic defense. Hockaday, too, has passed 15 times, completing 10, for 123 yards and, most notably, 4 touchdowns. They like to him near the goal line or in likely scoring positions as a decoy runner who then swoops up and passes to a (usually) wide open receiver.

Hockaday also is averaging 7.3 yards per carry so far this year, for 444 yards. And he has 11 touchdowns running. Max Pressley has also averaged above 7 yard per carry while racking up his 414 yards this year.

In short, the Lions just dominate with their running game. And if the opposing defense decides to put all its efforts into stopping it, they simply call on Weatherly to drop back and look for one of his talented receivers. Thomas Richard has been his favorite this year. He caught 39 passes for 585 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Not to jinx CPA or anything, but this game looks like about as close to a sure thing as exists. Even if such surety causes a jinx, CPA is playing so well it still wouldn’t matter.
