CPA destroys Maplewood

Williamson County Footballby Zachary Harmuth

The CPA Lions (4-0) keep winning and getting better every week.

On Friday night at home they knocked off the out-of-district Maplewood Panthers, winning easily, 42-20.

The Lions were up big by halftime, 35-0, a trend that seems to becoming a trademark for CPA, ranked first in Class 3A, and second in District 12 behind Cascade.

Part running back, part passer, Jay Hockaday led the way for the Lions, running for a 12-yard score and throwing for two more. Quarterback Zak Weatherly got in the act too, with one through the air, and one running. WR Thomas Richard was on the business end of two passing touchdowns.

Maplewood (1-2) scored 13 of its 20 in the fourth quarter; CPA finished all its scoring on its first possession of the third quarter. And CPA racked up 497-yards total.

Next week CPA has a big game against district rival Page (1-2), an explosive offensive team that is going to be desperate for a win.
