CPA is going undefeated, 14-0 heading into the TSSAA State Championship game. The Lions pounced on Lewis Co. to take a 36-28 win over the Panthers in the 3A Semifinals last night.
Kicking-off a little slow, CPA allowed Lewis County to grace the end zone with less than five minutes left in the first quarter. The Lions answered right back with a TD of its own for a tied match-up of 7-7.
CPA then decided to top off the second with a touchdown to take the lead the rest of the first half, but it wouldn’t be by much. The Panthers had a TD of its own, but a missed extra point, to bring the halftime score of 14-13.
The Lions must have had a lot to think about in the locker room because the second half was theirs.
Lewis County made a field-goal attempt to take a 2-point lead closing the third. The Panthers struck again going into the fourth with a touchdown, but CPA blocked the extra point. And that was just the beginning.
CPA ignited the field only 10-minutes left in the game with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to tie it up 22-22.
Thomas Richard made the Lions next move with a touchdown and put the Lions up with a solid 29-22 lead with only six-minutes remaining. Less than two minutes later, CPA took it into the end zone again to seal off 36-points for the night.
The Panthers managed to bring in one more touchdown for the night to complete a 38-26 win for the Lions.
CPA will travel to Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville to play at Tucker’s Stadium in the 3A Championship game against 13-1 Alcoa next Friday at 4 p.m.
