On March 7th, at the Doubletree in Murfreesboro, the Division I Blue Cross Girls’ Basketball Championship tournament draw was held. One local team, the CPA Lady Lions, have advanced to the Class AA tournament.

The tournament draw process was done in a lottery style. Each of the final eight teams at each level had their coach pick a numbered ball, which was then put in a rolling cage. After each team’s ball was put in the cage, a blind draw was completed to finalize the full tournament.

CPA’s quarterfinal matchup is the last game on Thursday at 6 PM, as the Lady Lions face East Nashville. The Eagles currently sit at 29-2, having not lost a contest since December 20th. East Nashville has been lambasting opponents throughout much of the year, though many of those opponents have been greatly overmatched. CPA is not far behind the Lady Eagles, with a 26-4 record and on a winning streak that dates back to December 30th. The high-powered Lady Lions have won all but two of their games during that time by greater than double digits.

If CPA makes it past the quarterfinals, they will face a steep challenge, no matter the winner on the other side of the bracket. The other quarterfinal on the Lady Lions’ side of the bracket features #1 Elizabethton (33-0) facing #3 Westview (31-2).

The Blue Cross Girls’ Basketball championships take place at MTSU’s Murphy Center, beginning with Class A and AAA games on Wednesday.
