County Approves 103 Road Projects: See a Road by Road Breakdown

On Wednesday, the Williamson County Highway Department approved a concept plan for more than 100 projects in the next 15 years.

The plan contains 103 projects on four major corridors- Sneed Road, Clovercroft Road, Lynnwood Way/South Berrys Chapel Road, Arno Road and Henpeck Lane- for traffic to remain at a serviceably acceptable, and safe, level as the county’s population and traffic grows through 2030.

There are 19 projects through 2020 and 84 more by 2030.

Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson said that most likely work will start first on Arno Road.

The plan includes work to both intersections, such as adding lanes, adding turn lanes, building traffic lights and widening shoulders; and work to actual roads, such as widening from two to four lanes in places or adding a center passing/turning lane.

Most all of the 2020 plan’s work applies to intersections, while most of the 2030 plan widens stretches of the roads.

2020 Plan

-About $23 million, 19 projects.

In the 2020 plan, Arno Road has the most work, totaling an estimated $8,810,000. Lynwood Way has the second most, with an estimated cost of $7,280,000. Clovercroft will cost an estimated $3.7 million, with Sneed Road, Coleman Road and Henpeck Lane, respectively, $1.7 million, $1.4 million and $810,000.

On Arno Road:

-Murfreesboro Road Intersection: add eastbound right turn and second northbound left turn lanes
-S. Carothers Road Intersection: add eastbound right and northbound left turn lanes
-Gosey Hill Road Intersection: add northbound left turn, eastbound through and westbound left turn lanes
-Peytonsville-Trinity Road Intersection: add eastbound and westbound left turn, northbound through and southbound left and right turn lanes
-Middle and High School Drives Intersection: reconstruct Arno as three-lane cross section through school limits
-840 Eastbound and 840 Westbound Ramps: add southbound through and westbound right turn lanes; add southbound left and eastbound right turn lanes, add eastbound on-ramp lane

On Lynwood Way:

-Hillsboro Road Intersection: add second southbound left turn lane, extend the existing one, and add eastbound turn lane on Lynnwood
-Farmington Drive intersection: construct two-lane roundabout
-Franklin Road Intersection: add southbound through lane, add second westbound right turn lane, westbound through and westbound left turn lanes, add northbound through lane and second eastbound left turn lane

On Sneed Road:

-Temple Road Intersection: add second eastbound through lane, add eastbound left turn lane, add separate northbound left turn lane, and westbound left and right turn lanes, add southbound right and left turn lanes, and modify signal to accommodate new phases

2030 Plan

-About $125 million, 81 projects

The 2030 plan for the five roads includes adding lanes and turning lanes on many smaller intersections along these roads. The 2030 plan also widens stretches of the roads.

Arno Road, in the 2030 plan, estimates a cost of $44.4 million, with Clovercroft the next most at $35.5 million. Sneed Road has an estimated projects cost of $23.1 million, Lynwood Way $14.7 million, Coleman Road $9 million and Henpeck $2 million.

$80.8 million of the estimated $128.7 million 2030 plan will go to corridor costs not associated with intersection work.

Arno Road:

-$30 million of the $44.4 million of the estimated cost of Arno Road projects will go to non-intersection work.

A long stretch of the road will be widened from two to four lanes- from its intersection with Murfreesboro Road to its intersection with Wildings Boulevard. The widening is broken down into individual projects, starting with Murfreesboro Road to Pate Road, from Pate Road to South Carothers, and so on. For specifics see the plan online.

Clovercroft Road:

-$26 million of the estimated $35.5 million cost of Clovercroft road projects will go to non-intersection widening.

A long stretch of the road will be widened from two to three, and then two to five lanes- from its intersection with Murfreesboro Road to Oxford Glen Drive will be widened from two to three lanes. From Oxford Glen Drive to Wilson Pike will be widened from 24 feet to 36 feet. From Wilson Pike to Burke Hollow Road will be widened from two to five lanes.

Sneed Road:

-$15 million of the estimated $23.1 million of Sneed Road projects will go to non-intersection widening.

From its intersection with Timberline Drive to its intersection with Hillsboro Road will be widened from two to four lanes. Certain sections (from Old Natchez Trace to Sawyer Road; from Laurelbrooke Lane to Gardengate Drive) will be widened from two to five lanes.

Lynwood Way:

-$9.8 million of the estimated $14.7 million of Lynwood Way projects will go to non-intersection widening.

From Legends Ridge Drive to Franklin Road will be widened from two to four lanes.

In the 2030 plan, Coleman Road and Henpeck Lane have only intersection projects.
