Country artist Sam Hunt was arrested on charges of drunk driving early Thursday morning (Nov 21) by Metro Police.
Hunt was taken to jail at 6:30 a with charges of driving under the influence and having open container, according to WKRN.
When Metro Police located Hunt, he was driving the wrong way on Ellington Parkway traveling south in the northbound lanes. In addition to driving the wrong way, Hunt was swerving and driving erratically. Police noted Hunt had bloodshot eyes and two empty beer cans near him during the traffic stop. Hunt also attempted to hand the officers his credit card and passport while admitting he had been drinking recently. Hunt’s alcohol level was .173, twice the legal limit, WKRN adds.
Hunt was released from jail at 9 a on a $2,500 bond. A court date has been set for January 17, 2020.
Sam Hunt became a popular country artist in 2014 with his song “Leave the Night On” with his debut album Montevallo being a certified 3X platinum. Hunt recently released a new single “Kinfolks” earlier this year.
