Construction Begins Soon on 40,000 Square Foot Downtown Franklin Project

99 e main street project

Construction is set to begin in May on a two-story mixed-use building at 99 E. Main St in downtown Franklin, reports Nashville Business Journal.

Franklin’s Historic Zoning Commission approved plans on March 12. Now it moves to the city’s planning commission for final approval. Will Schaedle, vice president of acquisitions and development at Chartwell Hospitality, told the Business Journal that the project is fully financed and he expects final approval from the planning commission in April.

The project is for a nearly 40,000 square foot building that will include office space, retail storefronts and a rooftop restaurant offering about 100 seats, adds Business Journal. This would be the second new rooftop restaurant for downtown Franklin as a rooftop restaurant is part of the plans for the 231 Public Square project.

The property had previously been the location of Dotson’s Restaurant, which closed in 2014. Recently it has been Metro Spy Supply, which closed in December.

The developer is Chartwell Hospitality, the developer also in charge of a new Hilton in Cool Springs slated to open in August of this year.

  1. Stories about all downtown is all well and great for people looking to move here but don’t leave out the massive potential going on on the east side of 65 I live in Breckenridge and it looks like we’re living in a different city over here our property values are skyrocketing it’s a great place and a great time to live here

  2. I have no issues with progress but for those who want to hide behind the “Historic” in Historic Franklin, please stop. You can’t have it both ways. Development is good but “time period” architecture (facades) are more symbolic, and can obtain the usability and user friendly need, and convey a more historic feeling than these brick structures that are planned for our square.
Again, I think progress is inevitable and a great path, but my fears are that our town will only a have few scattered building and houses that are truely historic, but our City Square will resemble nothing from our History.
