Congressman Marsha Blackburn will Continue to Serve in GOP Majority

Serving 19 counties, Marsha Blackburn (R-Brentwood) will keep her seat in the United States Congress for the Tennessee Seventh District.

As of the unofficial vote totals, Blacburn earned 75,950 of the vote in Williamson County, followed by her Democratic competitor Theron Chandler at 23,288 votes.

Blackburn – a former Tennessee state senator – has held her seat in office since 2002. She’s currently holds a seat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee serving as vice chair. The committee is a hodgepodge with jurisdiction over health care, energy regulation, and telecommunications issues.

“I am of course very honored and grateful to be re-elected,” Blackburn said. “It’s humbling to go through an election. We will continue the same work that is being done. We want to keep the internet, work on affordable health care for a all of our citizens, and keep the size and scope of the federal government small.”

Blackburn said whomever becomes the president – Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton – that it’s vital to work with Congress to avoid gridlock and polarization.

“The past eight years is when we have seen the divisions in our country truly grow,” Blackburn said. “We had an administration that didn’t work with us. It was frustrating for Democrats and Republicans. Regardless of who wins the White House, we hope that they will reach across the isle, and that they will reach across work with each chamber.”
