Congrats to Thompson’s Stations Wes Neiderland on Gold Glove Award

Columbia State Community College’s Wes Neiderland was announced as a recipient of the 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove Award®, the standard for outstanding defensive play. Neiderland will graduate from Columbia State in May with a general transfer degree. The Thompson Station resident is also a graduate of Independence High School.

“What a great honor for Wesley and our program,” said Mike Corn, Columbia State head baseball coach. “Wes had a great freshman year and is certainly a dynamic player to watch and a well-deserving recipient.”

The award was originally intended for Major League players but was expanded to the collegiate and high school levels in honor of the award’s 50th anniversary. Recipients are chosen in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

“I have a great coach, and there are a lot of really talented guys on the team,” Neiderland said. “This award was a complete surprise and very unexpected.”

“Rawlings and the ABCA have done a wonderful thing in bringing the Rawlings Gold Glove Award® to the collegiate ranks,” Corn said. “This award symbolizes a true team player who takes pride in more than a batting average.”
