McKamey Manor, located in Summertown, Tennessee is one of the most extreme places to visit. Some even call it the “scariest haunted house in the world.”
What makes it so extreme? Here’s a list of all the qualifications to participate in McKamey Manor.
- 21 and above, or 18-20 with parent approval
- Completed “sports physical” and doctor’s letter stating you are physically and mentally cleared
- Pass a background check
- Be screened via Facebook, Facetime, or phone
- Proof of medical insurance
- Sign a detailed 40-page waiver
- Pass a portable drug test on the day of the show
- You have to create a safe word
Netflix’s Dark Tourist with New Zealand Filimaker and journalist David Farrier, visited McKamey Manor as part of the series.
“I went to McKamey Manor in America, which is an extreme haunt. Basically, it’s a torture house. This guy Russ McKamey’s been running it for 20 years. You’ll get waterboarded, you’ll get hit. There’s a variety of things he does to break you. No one’s made it all the way through. Everyone bails out at some point and no one knows exactly what goes on inside,” Farrier told Travel Wire News.
Russ McKamey, Owner/Creator of McKamey Manor describes the experience in a video on the website as a “survivor horror boot camp” a place where you live your own horror movie. While the tour is expected to take ten hours, McKamey says most only last around eight minutes. If you complete the entire tour, he will give you $20,000. The price of admission for McKamey Manor is a 55 lb bag of dog food. Each participant is filmed during their visit to McKamey Manor.
Over 10,000 people have signed a petition to shut down McKamey Manor. Frankie Towery, who began the petition, writes “Advertised as ‘an extreme haunt’ when in fact it is NOT a haunted house. It’s a torture chamber under disguise. they do screenings to find the weakest, most easily manipulated people to do the ‘haunt.'” Learn more about the petition here.
