Father Ryan Fighting Irish

Father Ryan attempted a second-half comeback against Pope John Paul II Friday, but just couldn’t get over the hump.

After the Fightin’ Irish (2-2) fell behind the Knights (3-1) 20-3 at halftime, they couldn’t overcome it. They outscored JPII 14-0 in the second half, but fell 20-17.

Father Ryan leaned on a heavy rushing attack led by Jackson Byrd. He scored both Irish touchdowns in the second half while running for 45 yards on 19 carries.

Through the first two weeks of play, Father Ryan looked like it would have no growing pains under new head coach Brian Rector. The Irish cruised to two victories by an average of 28 points, but in their last two games they’ve lost by an average of 18.

Father Ryan will look to get back on track next week against a 1-3 Evangelical Christian team before the Irish’s schedule ramps up with games against Montgomery Bell Academy, Spring Hill, Brentwood Academy, Ensworth and Baylor.
