Columbia State’s mens basketball team captured the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII basketball tournament Saturday, defeating tournament host Southwest Tennessee 97-80.

The Chargers, who were the No. 3 seed in the tournament, shot 67.7% from the field in the second half on their way to a 61-46 run. In comparison, Southwest shot 36.4% over the same time frame.
Taljon Cromer led Columbia State with 22 points while T.J. Dunans was right behind with 21.
The victory marks the second time in three years the Chargers reached the NJCAA Division I Basketball Championship. This year’s tournament is March 16-21 in Hutchinson, KS.
They will face San Jacinto that day at 6:30 p.m.
