Columbia State Welcomes Alumna Silva for Piano Recital

Columbia State Community College alumna Jessica Silva will perform a recital of classical piano music April 5 at 5 p.m. in the Cherry Theater.

“We are delighted to have one of our talented alumni return to Columbia State” said Emily Gaskill, associate professor of music. “Jessica is such a passionate performer. She will no doubt give the audience an entertaining and inspirational concert.”

The recital will include a diverse program of classical piano repertoire from several stylistic periods including music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Periods as well as music from the Twentieth Century. Among the composers featured in this recital are J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Franz Liszt and Alberto Ginastera.

Silva was born in Cuba and began studying piano at the age of ten. She attended the Conservatory of Music Amadeo Roldan in Havana and moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 2011 with her family.

Silva graduated from Columbia State in spring 2015, where she earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree with a music emphasis. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in piano performance at David Lipscomb University. She also plans to pursue a master’s degree in piano performance.

The Cherry Theater is in the Waymon L. Hickman Building on the Columbia Campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike. The recital is free and open to the public.
