Columbia Man Wanted on Felony Murder Charges for Death of Child in Custody

On Tuesday, September 11th at about 1 p.m. Columbia Police Department responded with emergency medical personnel to a residence on East Highland Drive on report of a two-year-old child who was unresponsive.

The child was immediately transported to Vanderbilt’s Children Hospital in Nashville, TN for advanced medical treatment. While awaiting medical diagnosis of the child, detectives with Columbia Police Department began investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Medical professionals later diagnosed the child as having severe internal injuries with a serious risk of death to the child.

As the investigation evolved and more information was uncovered by detectives, probable cause was developed to charge 26 year old Timothy Lee Brooks Jr with Aggravated Child Neglect.

The child, at about 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, September 13th, was pronounced deceased at Vanderbilt’s Children Hospital. Mr. Brooks was additionally charged with Felony Murder after it was confirmed that the child succumbed to injuries sustained while in the care of Mr. Brooks.

Mr. Brooks is 26 years old , 6’00” 220 Lbs with brown hair and brown eyes.
