Coffeehouse Series Continues with The Good Cup

the good cup

We are continuing our coffeehouse series with The Good Cup located in the Grassland area, it has become the place where everyone knows your name and drink of choice.  We sat down with Amanda Taylor to learn more about what has kept The Good Cup brewing away  for the last eleven years.

WS:  What made you want to open The Good Cup?

Amanda: Anne Sale originally opened it up in 2003. For me, after I helped a friend open up her coffee shop in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2004 I wanted to open up a place for the community to gather. I was already in a career, but had this dream in the back of my mind. After walking into The Good Cup in 2007 I knew I had to work there so I quit what I was doing and applied for a job. A year and a half later Anne saw our vision for the shop was very similar so she passed the torch on to my husband and I and sold us her shop.

WS:  Can you tell us the inspiration behind the name The Good Cup?

Amanda:  It’s not really a glamorous story, but more of a collaboration between Anne and a customer (graphic/logo designer). It was simple, yet representative of what she thought the shop should be.

WS: What do you think makes The Good Cup unique?

Amanda:  Our customers for sure! We have quite the group of regulars that have been coming in everyday since it opened 11 years ago. We also focus on using local products, from our coffee beans to the art on our walls.

WS:  The Good Cup has quite a selection of food offerings, can you tell us about that?

Amanda: We provide breakfast such as bagel sandwiches, sausage biscuits, muffins and frittatas. As well as lunch with homemade soups, salads & sandwiches. Try our homemade chicken salad with a frozen fruit cup!

WS:  If you were a customer in your coffee shop, what drink would you order?

Amanda:  I personally love our cold brewed espresso with a little irish cream and milk. I think our staple drink is a Mocha Joe (Chocolate ghirardelli with drip coffee, steamed milk and whipped cream).

WS: In a few words, how would you describe The Good Cup?

Amanda:  It’s like the show Cheers, where everyone knows your name.
