Classes Aim to Help Families Navigate College Planning Process

Is Your Financial Aid in Order?

Westhaven University, a program that brings educational events to the west Franklin community, is offering classes on Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 called “College Planning 101.”

According to a press release from Westhaven, the first class, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 6, is an introductory course designed to empower parents to set expectations for young students, while helping them demystify the college planning process. Answers and resources will be provided and help design and execute a plan that fits the academic, social, and financial needs of a family preparing to send their teen off to college.

Part two of the series will dive deeper into smart financial planning programs for a teen’s education. This session will take place on Oct. 20 and will help parents get familiar with the FAFSA (The Free Application For Federal Student Aid). This application helps prepare students connect to government assistance programs, private scholarships or work-study opportunities. Through the FAFSA program, 15 million students annually receive almost $200 billion in federal and state aid for education each year.

The classes will be presented by nationally recognized college planning expert Randall Bedwell at the Westhaven Residents’ Club, 401 Cheltenham Avenue, Franklin.
