City Officials Look at Progress at Harlinsdale Farm

Harlinsdale Farm

Franklin’s city officials made a pit stop Saturday at Harlinsdale Farm during their mobile workshop to look at progress in the homestead’s restoration. Members of the board of aldermen and planning commission were a part of the city development tour conducted by Bob Martin, director of planning.

The non-profit group Friends of Franklin Parks, working with the Parks department, broke ground in February of this year on a restoration project at Harlinsdale Farm, which includes a five-acre facility with an arena, a concession stand, public restrooms and the restoration of a 24-stall barn adjacent to the arena site.

“We are chipping away at the master plan now,” City Administrator Eric Stuckey said, with regard to Harlinsdale’s 200 acres, currently being preserved for historic purposes and a place for the community. “

Equestrian trails will be developed out on the farm soon along with the $1.5 million equestrian center. However, horse boarding will not be taking place at this stage. Harlinsdale’s first polo match is scheduled for the end of October and set up for the Pilgrimage music and cultural festival began Monday, Sep 13th.

“The good thing about all this,” added Alma McLemore, planning commission member, “(Harlinsdale’s) finally being used now.”
