City Commission Moves Forward on Rezoning of Murray Lane

At Monday night’s Brentwood City Commission meeting, the main item on the agenda was the consideration of a rezoning request for a neighborhood to be built on the May property located off Murray Lane. The Commissioners unanimously decided to approve the first read of the request and move forward.

Commissioner Gorman moved for passage of of Ordinance 2015-11 that would rezone the property located on the East side of Murray Lane, northwest of the intersection with Holly Tree Gap Road. The property is located on Murray lane, near Scales Elementary. The property, owned by Helen May, is between Waterford and Forest of Brentwood subdivisions.

The proposal would rezone 32 plus acres, currently zoned as Suburban Residential, to Open Space Residential Development. The change in zoning would allow 24 single-family lots. Two less homes could be built if the property stay’s Suburban Residential.

Commissioner Crossley seconded the motion and Ordinance 2015-11 passed first ready unanimously.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2015 a meeting will be held to discuss the property rezoning and allow the community to give input moving forward.

Other items unanimously approved at Monday night’s City Commission Meeting:

  • Approval of increased July 4th fireworks expenses from High-Tech Special Effects
  • Approval to purchase replacement service body truck from Landers Ford for Water Services Department
  • Approval to purchase two (2) chipper trucks from Neely Coble Company
  • Approval to purchase new chipper machine from Tuff Equipment through NJPA Purchasing Cooperative
  • Approval to purchase replacement backhoe loader from John Deere through NJPA Purchasing Cooperative
  • Approval to purchase bulk road salt for the 2015/2016 winter season under state contract
  • Approval to purchase two (2) replacement vehicles for the Police Department under state contract
