Chinese Cutie Rediscovered After 20 Years

This adorable little mammal, known as the Ili pika, has been spotted (and recorded) by humans less than 30 times and is an average of eight inches in length. Ili pikas are native to the Tian Shan Mountains in China.

The photograph above is the first to be taken of the squirrel-bunny like creature in 20 years. They were first discovered in 1983, and have been elusive to animal scientists ever since.

The most recent photos were taken by Chinese scientist, Weidong Li, original discoverer of the species and a scientist at the Xinjiang Institute for Ecology and Geography. f13ec68fdcfbcf2b16a6e2eedc01c35e_650x
