Children’s Boutique Leaves Downtown Franklin After 27 Years

Generations of shoppers have found baby gifts and other items at For Every Child in downtown Franklin for the last 27 years. Due to increased rent prices and other lease requirements, For Every Child will soon say goodbye to downtown Franklin.

Opening in 1990, originally on Main Street, the store relocated a few years later to its current location on 5th Avenue, next to Starbucks.

In the boutique, shoppers will find five rooms jammed packed with merchandise ranging from baby gift items, baby blankets, shoes, toys and confirmation dresses. For Every Child carries a size range from preemie to tween sizes 16 for girls and boys size preemie to size 7.

When we spoke to owner Dale Knight she told us that her rent had been quadrupled and other requirements were also given to her as a tenant. The bottom line is that she said they simply can’t afford the increase.

“Leaving downtown so suddenly is very sad and difficult for us, no doubt, but I can’t blame the owner. If she can get four times what we have been paying, she should do it and somehow we will work it out,” said Knight.

“We have enjoyed working with John Green, our property manager, and will miss him, but things change and we will deal with it,” Knight continued.

Currently, they are looking for another location but Knight says it’s very hard to find and so the fate of For Every Child is up in the air at this point.

All fall and winter merchandise is on sale in the store. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
