Chargers Win 34 Run Marathon

In a game that lasted over four hours and produced a football-like score, Columbia State’s ninth inning rally was enough to add one to the win column with a 20-14 victory over Wallace State.

This game had 12 errors, 34 runs, 25 hits, 19 walks and the teams exchanged 6-run leads three times.

The Chargers seemed to be in control with a 6-run top of the fourth that put them ahead 7-1.

Wallace State would answer that with a 7-run bottom of the fifth which gave them an 8-7 lead. The hosts would add five more in the 7th to extend their advantage to 13-7.

CSCC would cut into the lead in top half of the eighth, when they had 4 runners cross the plate to make 13-11.

Then, in the top of the ninth, the Chargers bats exploded for 9 runs. That gave them their second six run lead of the game after trailing by six just two innings prior.

Wallace State would go quietly in the bottom of the ninth giving Columbia State the big come from behind win.

The winning pitcher, by default, was Kevin Salewsky.

Austin Atwell led the way offensively with 4 hits and 2 runs batted in.

Columbia State have now won 19 of their last 22 games and will travel to Volunteer State for a 3 game series starting on Friday.
