Centennial High Choral Director Dr. Johnathan Vest is rising up the ranks of the Grammy Music Educator Awards by being named a semifinalist.

Vest was named one of only 25 semifinalists from around the country. More than 3,300 initial nominations were submitted.

The Music Educator Awards honors those who have made a significant contribution to the field of music education. Ten of the semifinalists will be selected as finalists. One winner will be selected and flown to Los Angeles to attend the Annual Grammy Awards.

As a semifinalist, Vest is guaranteed to receive a $500 honorarium with a matching school grant.

“I’m incredibly humbled by this honor,” Vest said. “I think we all go into teaching not for the recognition, but because we love our subject matter and love helping young people achieve their dreams. I’m so thankful for all of my teachers, colleagues and students who have helped me along the way.”
