Centennial Takes Two From Indy

Centennial baseball took two from District 11-AAA rival Independence Thursday, defeating the Eagles 10-2 and 9-1.

Centennial busted the afternoon open early, scoring three runs in the first and third innings before taking a 7-0 advantage into the fifth.

Indy broke the shutout in the bottom of that frame, getting two runs, but the Cougars answered with another three-run inning to follow.

Zach McPherson got the win for Centennial, throwing all seven innings and striking out two batters while scattering 10 hits.

Trevor Sigmon had the big bat for the Cougars, tallying three RBI.

Game 2 was tight for a long portion of the contest. Tied 1-1 after three innings, Centennial jumped ahead with a six-run fourth frame that they followed with two more runs in the fifth.

Joe Miniot and Kyle Brennan each had two RBIs for the Cougars while Deon Sanders had a game-best three hits.

Christian Blackwell was on the mound for the Centennial win, throwing six innings and striking out two.

Indy’s fielder hurt them on the night, making four errors.
