Centennial Completes Successful Region Title Defense

Extreme Escape Games Game of the Week

The Centennial Cougars are Region 7-5A champions for the second season in a row.

Just like last year, the region championship came down to the final week of the regular season between Centennial (9-1, 7-0) and Henry County (5-4, 5-2). While last season’s matchup was competitive in the fourth quarter, Friday’s game was all Cougars.

After the game was tied at 7 in the second quarter, Centennial finished the game on a 27-0 run, winning 34-7.

Centennial senior running back Zyon Lee stole the show on offense for the Cougars. He rushed 31 times for 220 yards and three touchdowns.
Quarterback Tre Stewart added a 6-for-10 passing day with 150 yards and touchdown passes to AJ Morreale and Austin Waddell.

The Cougars’ defense also had an outstanding performance. It allowed only a second quarter touchdown and forced Henry County into five turnovers (three interceptions, two fumbles).

Finishing as the champion of Region 7-5A means Centennial will host Region 8-5A No. 4 seed Bolton (5-5) next week in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Wildcats lost 42-27 to Brighton on Friday.

The loss drops Henry County to third in the region standings. It was passed by Brentwood (6-4, 5-2), which beat the Patriots 38-18 on Oct. 21.
