Franklin is celebrating Public Safety Telecommunications Week and asks you support those who take your 911 calls by teaching your children how and when to make one. The first 911 system was implemented in Haleyville, AL in 1968 and the concept has served to save lives for 45 years.
The 911 service helps those who need assistance reach police, fire and medical services in the fastest way possible with only one call. April 14th through 20th is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week and it serves as a reminder to teach your children about the system. Franklin asks, “Please join us in recognizing our emergency dispatch professionals for the behind-the-scenes work they do under their headsets to get us help when we need it most.”
Franklin Police and Fire officials will show their appreciation for the City’s emergency telecommunicators by offering specially prepared meals in their honor throughout the week. Franklin families are encouraged to use this week as an opportunity to teach children how and when to dial 911. For more information on teaching your kids about 911, visit www.nena.org.
