After facing a potential shut-down a few months ago, the weekend impromptu car-show Nashville Cars n’ Coffee Fans has secured its future with a corporate sponsor.
“Moving forward, we are proud to announce a partnering with Bridgestone,” the group posted this week on its Facebook page.”They will now play a major role in our events. We are very excited to see what surprises they will have in the coming months.”
Every Saturday morning for nearly the last five years, Nashville Cars n’ Coffee has taken place in the Carmike Cinema parking lot in Cool Springs from 8 to about 10:30 am. Cars n’ Coffee meetings have grown and take place all over the country. But it has grown to such a point — more than a 1,000 cars per week– that safety became a concern.
A small number of people would race or drive dangerously and irresponsibly upon leaving the event. To the point that the Franklin Police needed to divert extra officers to the event.
In late March, it looked like the weekly event might be coming to an end. However, representatives from the group and the police have been trying to work out a solution wherein the event would pay for the extra security.
The Bridgestone deal should go a long way in creating long-term viability.
One of the administrators of the groups Facebook page, who styles himself Boddington Biddlesworth, had been actively recruiting community sponsors and seeking out options and permitting. He wrote in April that private community donations had provided enough to keep the show alive through fall, but that a real business partnership would probably be needed to keep things going beyond that.
“When this [event] started we could not have imagined it would become what it is today,” he wrote. “We should all take pride in the fact that we all have turned Nashville Cars n’ Coffee into a world class event. The diversity of cars and quality of people at this event is second to none.”
They have started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $15,000.
