Second Half Sinks Grace Christian Boys Against Bulldogs

In their second home game since winter break, Grace Christian fell to Columbia Academy 59-44 in a back and forth battle on January 19th. The loss dropped Grace Christian to 7-11, 5-4 in district play.

The Lions and Bulldogs traded baskets for much of the first half, with neither team able to create separation from the other. Columbia Academy struggled with Grace Christian forward Demontay Dixon’s size in the middle, particularly early in the game. GCA was able to take advantage of the size differential down low to get out to a 28-25 halftime lead.

When the teams switched ends after the break, the Lions once again took advantage in the middle with Dixon’s size. The inside-out action of the Grace offense confused the Bulldogs defense. In the fourth quarter, the iron proved unkind to the Lions, while Columbia Academy couldn’t miss on their end. Late foul shots for the Bulldogs were able to expand their lead to the final margin.

Dixon led Grace Christian with 17 points. Seniors Jake Johnson and Dylan Woods scored 12 and 8 points, respectively. Columbia Academy’s Nygel Arms led all scorers with 20 points. This week, the Lions travel to Hendersonville Christian and host Mount Pleasant to close out the week.

Young Lady Lions Roar Coming Into Its Own

Despite a severe size and experience disadvantage, the Grace Christian ladies fought hard in a losing effort to district IMG_2095leader Columbia Academy, 60-23.

The Lady Lions, with a roster full of 8th and 9th graders, had issues with Columbia Academy’s center, who stood at 6’5” in the middle of the lane. During the game, the Grace Christian ladies were able to take advantage of their speed in transition offensively.

While GCA remains winless this season, the growth of the Lady Lions is evident. As the team gains more experience, Grace Christian will likely break into the positive side of the column this season. The Lady Lions face Hendersonville Christian and Mount Pleasant this week.
