What to Buy and What Not to Buy in March

March Things to Buy

March brings Spring Break and St. Patrick’s Day but what it doesn’t bring is as many sale holidays.

At Offers.com, they put together a list of items that you should buy in March and those that you should hold off until later in the year.

What to Buy in March

Luggage

In anticipation of the summer travel season, stores start rolling out new luggage styles in the spring. Check out department stores (such as Macy’s, Kohl’s and Dillard’s) and big-box home goods stores (such as Target and Bed Bath & Beyond) for the best deals on individual pieces and sets.

  • Get free shipping on any order at Away Travel
  • From Feb. 28 – Mar. 3, get 25 percent off travel items at Vera Bradley

Spring travel

Spring break generally falls in mid-march. That means hotel chains, vacation-package vendors, airlines, cruise lines and booking sites will be running sales trying to fill rooms, cabins and seats.

  • Book last minute hotel with Expedia and save as much as 30%.
  • Get up to 60 % off Mexico vacations through May 30
  • Through March 17, get 15% off at Hotels.com

Fitness trackers, sneakers and workout clothing

With the weather (hopefully) becoming more amenable to running outdoors, you’ll start finding deals on fitness-tracking wearables from brands like Fitbit and Garmin, and on workout clothing and shoes (from stores like Target, Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods) popping up in early spring.

Plus, be on the lookout for discounts on winter gear like snowboards and skiing clothes. Dick’s Sporting Goods, for example, is offering up to 50% off select outerwear from last season.

St. Patrick’s Day Gear

In the lead-up to St. Patrick’s Day, you’ll start seeing deals on green party-wear and Irish keepsakes. Prices will drop even more immediately following March 17, especially on Irish-themed shirts and candy at big-box stores such as Target and Walmart. Last year, we saw St. Patrick’s Day sales from clothing and fashion retailers, online treat delivery stores, craft stores and more.

  • Get 30% off St. Patrick’s Day collection at Hobby Lobby.

What not to buy in March 2019

Don’t pull out your wallet for the following items during March. Waiting even just a few months can save you money.

Appliances

If you missed this year’s Presidents Day sales in February, wait until Memorial Day to buy a new washer/dryer set, fridge, dishwasher, range or at-home coffee maker. The weekend of May 25 to May 27 will be full of blowout and clearance sales on home electronics, big and small.

Spring clothing

As your favorite stores roll out spring styles, you may feel tempted to splurge on a new warm-weather wardrobe. But be warned—spring clothes typically bear higher price tags during March. The best spring apparel deals won’t materialize until end of the season. A possible exception, however, are spring clothes that are part of Easter sales. With Easter falling on April 21 this year, expect some spring clothing (especially kids’ spring clothing) to go on sale in early- to mid-April.

TVs

While February often brings deep discounts on TVs and electronics of all kinds (thanks to the Super Bowl and Presidents Day), March underwhelms when it comes to new television deals. Your next opportunity to land an ultra-cheap 4K TV might not be until July, when Prime Day and “Black Friday in July” sales bring price drops on practically all screen sizes.
