Which Businesses Have Sold Alcohol To Minors?

On January 29th the Franklin Police Department and Williamson County Anti-Drug Coalition (WCADC) conducted an alcohol compliance check at 13 local establishments. Out of the 13 establishments visited, two sold alcohol to a Franklin Police confidential informant who was under the age of 21. These establishments include Mapco located at 1501 Murfreesboro Road and Shell located at 1125 Murfreesboro Road.

We talked to Alex Windings, the coalition coordinator, and she gave us stats on which businesses have sold alcohol to minors in the past and on how they conduct their checks.

The WCADC works with the several police departments in the county, hiring them to do quarterly checks on businesses that sell beer, such as supermarkets and gas stations. Checks are not done necessarily every three months but for the most part are done four times a year.

If a business is caught the first time it is cited and fined. A second offense is a larger fine. The sale of beer is regulated by beer boards in each municipality, and they all have their own rules and penalties. By and large, however, a business that repeatedly breaks the law and fails the stings will lose its beer license and no longer be allowed to sell alcohol.

Here is a history of businesses that have sold alcohol to minors during the stings:

From 1/16 report– Mapco located at 1501 (cited on 12/14) Murfreesboro Road, Shell located at 1125 Murfreesboro Road

From 7/15 report– Mickey Roos located at 509 Hillsboro Road (cited in January of 2015), and Swanky’s Taco Shop located at 1175 Meridian Blvd #106.
