Bruins Hit Walk-Off HR and More District Recaps

Baseball

Brentwood defeated Centennial in their first District 11 Playoff game in the most thrilling fashion possible. The Bruins’ Korey Bell hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 8th to send Brentwood to the winners bracket championship on Monday.

Summit’s Comeback Falls Short Against Ravenwood

The Spartans put up a valiant effort in their 10-9 defeat to Ravenwood. Summit scored three in the final frame but it wasn’t enough as Karlton Turcious’ bases loaded line drive was snagged by Ryan Pope to end the game.

Spectators saw some fireworks in the sixth inning as Bryce Denton started the excitement with a line drive homer to right. That was a two-run shot and later in the inning, Darrell Freeman hit a liner over the left field fence, also a two-run homer. That one gave Ravenwood the lead for good at 8-6.

That sets up a “Battle of the Woods” Monday for the winners bracket championship.

Independence Wins Slugfest

Centennial has been eliminated from District tournament play after a 16-14 loss to Independence. In a game full of offense, it was the Cougars who grabbed the early 9-4 lead.

Indy would respond, starting with a two-run tater from Cameron Carroll that cut the lead to 9-6.

Trailing 9-8 in the fourth, Ethan Nieman singled to left on a line drive that scored two, giving the Eagles the lead at 10-9.

It was Niemann who capped off a six-run top of the fifth to make it a 16-9 Independence lead.

Independence will play the winner of Summit/Franklin

Summit Erases 3-0 Deficit to Advance

The Franklin Rebels scored the first three runs of the game but the Spartans of Summit would score 11 of the next 13 to win 11-5.

Logan Jarvis got things going for Franklin with an RBI double to left. Franklin got their 2nd and 3rd runs in the top of the 2nd inning but that’s when Summit would take over.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Raptors loaded the bases and started to push runs across. Before Franklin could end the inning, Summit had taken a 5-2 lead.

The game started to slip away from Franklin in the bottom of the fourth when Karlton Turcious singled in Nick Walker to make the score 8-3.

Both teams had 10 hits in the game, Summit just did more with theirs and took advantage of Franklin mistakes.

Leadoff hitter Dale Burdick went 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Spartan starter, Cody Campbell went all seven innings and despite giving up five runs, earned the win.

Summit will play Independence Monday at 4:30 with the winner facing the loser of the Brentwood/Ravenwood game.
