Brentwood quarterback Carson Shacklett is one of the area’s best, and for the second-straight week, he showed why in a 41-21 win over Cane Ridge.
Oh, and the defense did its part, too.
One week after leading the Bruins to a huge win over Franklin, Shacklett connected on 17-of-31 throws for 236 yards and three scores, and ran 10 times for 37 more.
The Bruins picked off five Cane Ridge passes, two by Mack Anderton.
Running back Carter McKechnie also ran for two scores for Brentwood (2-0).
Cane Ridge out-gained Brentwood, 369-329, but that was misleading as Brentwood held a 20-point lead early in the the fourth quarter.
Shacklett threw his third score of the night, this one, a 28-yard toss to Avery Williams, to make it 34-14.
The game got off to a disastrous start for the Bruins. Cane Ridge took a 7-0 lead with 7:20 left in the first quarter on a 28-yard scoring pass from Kory Andrew.
Then, Brentwood lost a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Cane Ridge scored another touchdown on a 23-yard touchdown run by Devon Starling less than two minutes later.
Shacklett hit Chance Bishop with an 18-yard scoring strike, cutting the lead in half late in the first quarter.
Shacklett struck again early in the second quarter, connecting with wide receiver Parker Bullion for 38 yards and another score.
The Bruins then got another interception and converted a field goal at the end of the quarter to take a 17-14 halftime lead.
Brentwood took a 24-14 lead with 8:36 left in the third quarter when McKecknie scored on a two-yard rush.
Brentwood also got interceptions from Joe Bayless, Matthew Phillips and C.J. Grissim.
